Bread and Salt: Delicatessen by Yannis Loukakos

Bread and Salt: Delicatessen by Yannis Loukakos

Delicacies with an international orientation, a comfort approach and gourmet touches.

The location: It couldn't be more central in Chalandri. In Eleftheroton Square in front of the church of Agios Nikolaos.

The atmosphere: Since its renovation, the “Bread and Salt” space has taken on a more interesting, cosmopolitan feel. Its dining room is much more minimalist than before, with nice touches like ceramic sconces and wood panels on the walls.

The food: Despite its simple character, the space exudes warmth and fits well with Yiannis Loukakos' cuisine, which in turn has an international orientation, with a comfort approach and gourmet touches.

We tried a delicious, refreshing beetroot salad with yogurt, apple sticks and grated walnuts, and a lovely open, fluffy pie with grilled vegetables and sour cheese. For main courses, we really liked the light, sautéed mylokopi fillet with potato salad and saltiness enhanced by a delicious lemony sauce, as well as the slow-cooked veal cheeks that become Turkish delight and go perfectly with their accompaniments: eggplant with tomato, yogurt cream and grilled feta. Among the desserts we tried, we singled out the chocolate ganache tart with a base of grated butter biscuit and vanilla ice cream, light and semi-sweet, just what you need to end even the most sumptuous dinner.

The bill: €35-60 / couple without drinks.

The wine cellar: Relatively conventional and small list of bottled Greek wines, with fairly good pricing.

Additional information: Open Monday - Friday 13.30-00.00, Weekend 10.00-2.00.
