Siam Thai Food: Homemade food from Thailand
Marianna and Thodoris decided to open a shop before they even turned 30, offering what they eat at home.
"The story started with Marianna and I meeting at a cafeteria where we both worked. We made it, she cooked me the Thai food she ate growing up at home and I said no way. It's fantastic. We're making it a business," said Thodoris, explaining where the idea came from.
"We had saved some money with Marianna and decided to open a shop and that's how Siam Thai Food came about."
"The Thai food we offer is from the Thai mom who showed us the recipes she cooked herself at home. She is not a chef. Neither am I nor Marianna, we are chefs, we do not create recipes on our own. We are cooks who simply make traditional dishes," said Thodoris.
"We really like to offer what we eat at home and enjoy with each other. That's how we like to see customers eat too."
"We like to explain what we eat, how we eat it, and talk about Thai culture," added Thodoris, explaining that in Thailand, eating is a ritual.
As for the dishes, favorites are those that are not missing from any Thai table, with their execution remaining faithful to tradition and not adapted to the Greek audience. At Siam Thai Food, you can try, among others, Pad ka prao which is minced meat with mint and chili and the famous Pad Thai.
The Som Tam salad – spicy and pounded in a mortar – is what Thodoris first tried and decided that these are not flavors that should be enjoyed by only a few people in Greece. “More people should finally try these flavors!”
The fragrant and "mom-like" dishes of Siam Thai Food are served in a simple and unpretentious space in a small alley of Panormos.
