The Vila Viniteca Wine Tasting for Couples competition sells out in four minutes
The renowned Vila Viniteca Wine Tasting for Couples competition will celebrate its thirteenth edition on March 1st at the Casa Llotja de Mar in Barcelona. As in previous years, the winning couple will receive a cash prize of €30,000; the second-place pair €7,000, and the third-place pair €3,000.
Once again, those interested in participating in the Vila Viniteca Wine Tasting for Couples competition waited at their computers for online registration to open so they could fill out the form and become one of the 120 competing couples. While in previous years the number of applications reached its limit in just one hour, this year it broke all records: the website was closed for four minutes and no more applications were accepted. In fact, the site currently indicates there is a waiting list. The entry fee for this competition is 200 euros per couple.
After thirteen years, Cata por Parejas (Wine Tasting for Pairs) has become one of the most anticipated competitions for wine enthusiasts and professionals. The competition consists of two parts: a qualifying round, lasting approximately ninety minutes, where the ten best pairs are selected, and a grand final, where those ten pairs compete for the top three spots over the course of an hour. The tests involve a series of tastings, after which participants must complete a form detailing the country, region of origin, appellation of origin (DO), grape varieties, vintage, producer, brand, and comments on the wines tasted.
The first-place couple receives a cash prize of 30,000 euros, the second 7,000 euros, and the third 3,000 euros. The ten finalist couples are awarded a selection of wines.
