The best truffles to give as Christmas gifts: new products from Savini Tartufi

The best truffles to give as Christmas gifts: new products from Savini Tartufi

Never like at Christmas is it so wonderful to bring so many different, special, and slightly exclusive things to the table. Like truffles, rightly considered among the most precious ingredients.

It is located in the province of Pisa (in Forcoli), on a strip of land between the mountains and the sea where seven types of truffle (of the nine found in Italy) grow, which can be harvested year-round. But this isn't the only reason why Savini Tartufi is considered unique today for the production of this prized tuber and for truffle-based products. Savini Tartufi was also among the first to process it into its many varieties, with an expertise that is evident from the first bite.

The history of Savini Tartufi

It all started by chance: when Giuseppe Savini, a failed hunter, first brought home the tuber he'd found while wandering the woods with his dog in 1920, he never imagined it would be the start of a great story. Back then, truffles were considered "strange and smelly" potatoes and were fed to pigs. It was his son Zelindo who had the brilliant idea of capitalizing on his father's passion for digging: he offered his tubers to be tasted at the banquets of the owner of the estate where he worked. Then he decided to sell them directly to the guests he, as a gamekeeper, accompanied in the woods. A turning point: shortly thereafter, he bought a bar—the Bar Montanelli—which was also a restaurant and shop, in a busy area, perfect for selling, and created a network of truffle hunters from whom he purchased truffles to resell. In turn, his son Luciano had the brilliant idea of using the slightly smaller, unsold truffles for a line of jarred and canned products that would allow everyone to taste them: it was the 1970s, and it was another success. A success that Luciano's son, Cristiano Savini, is now continuing with the rest of the family. Four generations of truffle hunters have been working for almost a century to ensure quality, allowing the world to taste the finest truffles in every season.

Savini Tartufi's truffles as Christmas gifts

This Christmas, we have two delicious new additions that are perfect for a thoughtful gift: the first is Savini Tartufi's Pumpkin Cream with Truffles, which combines two local products in a delicious and versatile vegetarian recipe. A perfect sauce for pasta or risotto, ready in a flash (just bring the cream to a gentle boil after adding water), the new Pumpkin Cream with Truffles is also ideal as an appetizer with warm croutons, or as an accompaniment to main courses and side dishes.

For an even more special gift, there's the new Christmas box, perfect for a hearty sampling of Savini truffles: an elegant wooden box containing tagliolini, Parmigiano Reggiano and truffle cream, a recipe book, and a truffle slicer—everything you need to prepare a delicious plate of tagliolini with truffles.
