Tasting and chat about Cerrado coffees take place on Saturday (18) at Casa Hario (SP)

Tasting and chat about Cerrado coffees take place on Saturday (18) at Casa Hario (SP)

The initiative, which highlights Brazilian Geographical Indications (GIs), will bring producers and coffees from other regions until the end of 2026; a dinner paired with the beverage will close the first meeting.

Casa Hario launches, this Saturday (18), a series of monthly tastings and meetings with producers to celebrate Brazilian geographical indications of coffee. The action is part of the Cafés de Origem project, created by Katia Nassuno, the mastermind behind Casa Hario, which seeks to connect coffee growers and their territories to consumers through coffee tastings and workshops.

Each month, the space, which combines a shop, coffee shop, bar, and restaurant in the Itaim Bibi neighborhood of São Paulo, hosts a producer and their beans. "More than just hosting events, we act as a platform that hosts and curates experiences, connecting origin and consumption in a genuine way," says Kátia.

The debut region is Cerrado Mineiro, the country's first coffee designation of origin, represented by Fazenda Três Meninas, owned by the couple Marcelo and Ana Paula Urtado. Located in Monte Carmelo, the farm is a world reference in the production of regenerative coffees. On the 18th, from 10 am to 12 pm, a breakfast is scheduled with Ana Paula – accompanied by her daughters Malu and Fernanda, who, along with her, are the reason for the property's name – and a tasting of the Topázio Arabica, naturally processed (100% sun-dried), in three different roasts.

“The Cerrado region excels in regenerative agriculture for coffee, and when consumers choose regenerative coffee, they support the supply chain and encourage the production base,” Ana Paula tells Espresso.

A proponent of the practice for ten years, which restores the soil and increases biodiversity, Ana Paula says the initiative is an opportunity to discuss the topic with the public. “The concept of quality in coffee has evolved – it’s no longer just about how it looks in the cup, but how it was produced,” she emphasizes. “If you can choose a good coffee with a positive impact, why not?” she asks.

Tickets for the event, which has limited spaces, cost R$ 198 (plus fees) on the Sympla website.

The coffee from Fazenda 3 Meninas will also be available starting Saturday on the coffee shop's menu, in seven brewing methods (such as V60, siphon, and Surien), and will be sold (in a limited edition) alongside two other representatives from the Cerrado region: a natural Paraíso 2 from Guima Café, from the São Lourenço (Patos de Minas) and Brasis (Varjão de Minas) farms, in Alto Paranaíba – the heart of the DO's coffee production –, and a Novo Mundo induced fermentation coffee from Fazenda Tabatinga, in Indianópolis, owned by Alzira Mantovanelli.

Coffee is also featured on the dinner menu for April 24th (at 7 pm, for R$ 380). The menu, created by chef and coffee grower Gabi Tropicana, who runs the Riacho Pequeno restaurant (Itu, SP), focuses on traditional country cuisine paired with coffee and wines from Minas Gerais. Dishes include rice with requeijão moreno (a brownish, slightly sweet cheese made on a wood-burning stove and typical of regions like the Mucuri Valley), pressed beef brisket with coffee demi-glace, farofa (toasted cassava flour), and shredded kale.

Until the end of the year, Casa Hario will host coffee producers from the Geographical Indications of Região do Pinhal (SP), Alta Mogiana (SP), Região Vulcânica (MG), and Canastra (MG). Dates, to be determined, will be updated on the company's website and social media.
