“Christmas lights” sweets

Do you enjoy decorating cookies and find it a wonderful way to clear your head? Then try making Christmas lights from Linz dough! Even children will be enthusiastic about helping you and will be absolutely delighted with the result.

Ingredients · Servings For about 20 pieces
  • 300 g plain wheat flour
  • 60 g powdered sugar
  • 160g butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 240 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 egg white
Method · 1 h 57 min
  1. Knead the dough by hand from the flour, sugar, butter, egg yolks and lemon juice. Wrap in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for an hour (or overnight). Then, on a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 3 mm and cut out circles with a diameter of about 8 cm. Bake on a baking tray lined with baking paper at 180°C until the edges are golden brown and leave to cool.
  2. Prepare the icing. In a bowl, combine the sugar and lemon juice. Beat the egg whites until stiff, then add 2 tablespoons to the bowl with the sugar. Whisk slowly and resist the temptation to add more liquid. The sugar will gradually dissolve, creating a smooth icing.
  3. Spoon the icing onto the biscuit and spread with a flat knife or spatula to the edges. Let it set slightly.
  4. Draw two lines on each cookie with chocolate or black icing and then stick mini lentil stars on top to make lights. Refrigerate.
