What to order at Eebee's Corner, Shaw's bar with burgers and cocktails
Eebee's Corner bar in Shaw has a burger that was quickly named among the best in town, and here's what you should order.
Eebee's Corner opened in Shaw with more fanfare than you'd expect from a neighborhood spot. An early review in the Washington Post fueled the hype, and where there are crowds, it's wise to have a plan.
The burger is fantastic: it has a great smoky flavor, a juicy texture, and a toasted seeded bun, and it goes perfectly with bacon. The accompanying fries could have been fried for a couple more minutes. The Caesar salad, topped with cheese and dressed with a bold vinaigrette, adds a touch of green to the meal.
For sharing, the extra-large mozzarella sticks with stretched cheese are recommended. A cocktail of juicy, tender shrimp costs $21, when this dish usually exceeds $30 at this time of year.
The cocktail menu features several Manhattan variations, and the bar makes an excellent off-menu Black. The dry Brooklyn, with a hint of maraschino cherry, is worth trying. The classic 50/50 martini was particularly well-received, while the "dirty" and "delicious" versions are more citrusy than saline, with an underlying sweetness that throws the mix off balance.
The turkey sandwich, with meat of a similar texture to minced meat and abundant mayonnaise, resembled a turkey salad and did not convince.
The place fills up quickly. A group of five arrived at 5:00 p.m. on a snowy Monday and found four other groups with the same idea; by 5:20 p.m. the place was already full. Now they require most of the group to be present, and some customers have had similar experiences even after 1:00 a.m.
